A present-day group of teenagers with migrant backgrounds and a 13 year-old girl from the late 19th century, who had to leave her homeland. Told from the point of view of the youths, A DOOR FOR ME presents “a refreshing, profound and nuanced take on the topic of migration and integration” by interweaving two storylines: the historical storyline based on writings and oral histories of teenagers from the late 19th and early 20th century echoes in the everyday of modern-day migrant youngsters. A DOOR FOR ME explores a global issue which continues to polarize politics and society, and that is also reflected in the young people’s feelings, fears and aspirations. Both then as now, the youths meet the challenges of everyday life with humor, resilience and hope.
